My speciality is “Musculoskeletal Medicine” (UK equivalent is “Orthopaedic Physician” or in the USA “Physiatrist”)I assess problems arising from the musculoskeletal system (muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, joints, fasciae and discs) in all ages, that are unlikely to have a surgical option.

The key is to make an accurate diagnosis so that appropriate investigations, treatment, and rehabilitation can follow.

My Expertise includes:

  • Understanding Persisting (Chronic) Pain States.
  • Awareness of what other treatment providers have to offer ( physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractors, acupuncture to name a few)
  • Manual therapy

Peripheral Joint Injections, trigger point injections, and Epidural Caudal Spinal Injections ( Also onward referral to colleagues trained in interventional spinal injections)

I have a close working relationship with all the Nelson Orthopaedic Surgeons, with cross referral occurring where appropriate.

I have an ACC Contract, thus I am able to receive referrals from any ACC contracted provider (Medical Specialists, GPs, ACC registered treatment providers), as well as Private Insurance. I also see private patients.

I am a lecturer for the Otago University Musculoskeletal Diploma, as well as taking some teaching sessions for the GP Registrar Programme.

I graduated for Otago University in 1981. I have worked as a GP in Wakefield since 1988, and since I completed the Australasian Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Medicine in 2002 I have worked as a Musculoskeletal Specialist (50% of my time in each field)

I am married with 4 grown up children.

Interests include running, tramping, skiing, kayaking, reading and wine.
